Chapter 33

Pip describes Estella as being more beautiful as ever, this quote enforces that “Estella seemed more delicately beautiful than she had ever seemed yet.” Pip still cant remember who Estella’s face reminds him of. Estella still mocks Pip by calling him a silly boy in a sarcastic manner “You silly boy.”

Pip and Estella carry on talking, until Estella tells him that he is to take her to Richmond, so Pip does what he is told. In the end Pip returns back home to the Pockets home.

Pip is requested to attend the funeral.

Pip says his goodbyes and leaves the next morning for London.

Chapter 36

Pip celebrates his twenty-first birthday, meaning he wont have to receive money through Jaggers, he can now receive it from his fortune. However Herbert and Pip’s debts are increasing and getting bigger. Pip hopes Jaggers will reveal to him who his benefactor is, but instead of doing so Jaggers tells him to “waive” that thought, he then proceeds to hand Pip a bank note five hundred pounds. Unfortunately Pip is in seven hundred pounds in debt so this money wouldn’t be enough to clear his debts. Pip tells Wemmick that he would like to support Herbert’s business and act as a benefactor for Herbert, Wemmick strongly disagrees and tells Pip it is more enjoyable if you toss your money over a bridge than waste it on Herbert.”and take a walk upon your bridge, and pitch your money into the Thames over the centre arch of your bridge, and you know the end of it. Serve a friend with it, and you may know the end of it too – but it’s a less pleasant and profitable end.” this quote enforces the fact that Wemmick disapproves of Pip’s plans.

Chapter 37

Pip visits Wemmick’s house, where he is greeted by his aged father. The two endure in a conversation, but are interrupted by a Miss Skiffins whom we later find out is Wemmick’s girlfriend(she is described as having a wooden appearance). Wemmick finally arrives back home and decides to agree with Pip’s plans and decides to help Pip support Herbert. Wemmick then raises the flag and fires from his cannons. They then proceed to have dinner where Wemmick on several occasions attempts to place his hand on Miss Skiffins.

Miss Havisham hold Estella but she begins to detach herself from Miss Havsiham causing an argument between the two. Miss Havsiham argue with Estella about love and how she hasn’t taught Estella how to love someone and has caused her to be  very cruel and cold hearted. Pip then lays rest at Satis house and is “haunted” by thousands of Miss Havisham’s.

Pip and Estella return to London. We learn more about Bentley Drummle we find out that he was raised very different to Pip, and he too receives money through Jaggers. Pip is satartled when he realises Drummle knows Estella. Drummle reveals that Estella likes him and even brings a written vowel as proof, this angers Pip, but the way in which Estella treats Drummle  through despising him calms Pip down, as he is told by Estella that she despises everyone but Pip.
