Chapter 15
Pip tries to persuade Joe that he needs to visit Miss Havisham’s but Joe still doesn’t allow him. Joe’s forge worker Orlick who is vicious and not so nice treats Pip cruelly. They both get in an argument about who is going to have a half holiday Joe then decides everyone will have a half holiday, the next day Miss Joe doesn’t want Orlick to have the half holiday, Orlick starts to make rude comments about Mrs Joe, at the same time Joe tells Orlick to stop. Mrs Joe then asks Joe to defend her, he then drops Orlick, Mrs Joe faints from excitement. The next day Pip visits Miss Havisham to enquire about Estella, he is then told that she is abroad. He then leaves, on the way home, Pip sees Orlick and they both walk back home. Pip and Orlick then hear guns fire from the prison ships. When he arrives home find out that Mrs. Joe has been attacked and is now a brain-damaged.
Chapter 16
Pip starts to feel guilty as an iron leg is found, which reminds him of how he gave a file to the escapee to remove the in leg in the past. The police offers come to find out who did it their main suspect being Joe. Orlick is called to by Mrs Joe, everyone is expecting him to be denounced but all of a sudden Mrs Joe is happy when she sees Orlick.
Chapter 17
Biddy moves in to help take care of Mrs Joe. He then talks a walk with Estella, although he seems attracted to Biddy he tells her how much he loves Estella. They see Orlick and BIddy tells Pip that Orlick likes her but she doesn’t like him.
Chapter 18
At the three Jolly Bargemen’s one evening Mr wopsle talks about the trial of a murder suspect in the newspapers. When all of a sudden he is interrupted by a lawyer who proves him wrong and makes a joke out of him. Pip recognises the lawyer, the stranger introduces himself and goes home with Pip and Joe. The lawyer explains to Pip that he is soon to inherit a large fortune and will visit London to learn how to become a gentleman. He also learns that his tutor will be Mathew Pocket, Joe refuses to let him go , but then leaves the final decision to Pip, to which he accepts.
