Chapter 20

Pip is taken to London by Jaggers, at the same time Pip is amazed and displeased with the stench London is giving off. Jaggers is seen as a very important and powerful man, due to the number of criminals outside of his office, we understand that he is relieving some of their crimes by asking them for money. Pip meets Jaggers clerk Mr. Wemmick.

Chapter 21

Wemmick introduces Pip to his tutor’s son Herbert Pocket. They both get along with each other very well. Herbert is very cheerful and open.Pip’s fortune has already been made for him, whereas Herbert wants to become a shipping gentleman. The two then realise that they have met before, Pip then realises that he is the pale young gentleman
